Turbomachinery and Heat Transfer Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Additive Manufacturing Engineer to support advanced experimental research, development, and testing activities. The role combines hands-on operation of additive manufacturing systems, post-processing and furnace work, and close collaboration with researchers and engineers on cutting-edge metal and ceramic components for high-temperature and turbomachinery applications.
Job description:
-
Lead daily operations of the EOS M290 (LPBF/DMLS) and Lithoz CeraFab (LCM) systems, including scheduling and prioritization.
-
Oversee material lifecycles: sieving, recycling and contamination control.
-
Perform preventive maintenance and routine service tasks.
-
Prepare, execute, and monitor AM builds - Build setup, orientation, support strategy, and parameter selection, powder handling, reuse, and safety procedures.
-
Perform post-processing operations – support removal, sintering.
-
Support design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) activities - self-supporting geometries, internal channels, monolithic parts; shrinkage, distortion, and tolerance considerations.
-
Use simulation and digital tools to improve print outcomes.
-
Conduct dimensional checks and assist with part validation (surface quality assessment, CT etc.).
Requirements:
-
BA in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field; MA - advantage.
-
Strong understanding of additive manufacturing technologies (LPBF, binder jetting, DED, etc.).
-
Ability to select AM processes, materials, and equipment to meet part requirements and optimize outcomes.
-
Experience operating high-temperature furnaces.
-
Documentation and reporting of process.
-
Ability to read/write technical ation in English.
-
Familiarity with AM simulation tools (e.g., Simufact Additive, ANSYS AM) - Advantages.
-
Familiarity with Materialise Magics or similar tools - Advantages.
-
Understanding related manufacturing techniques (CNC machining, inspection, quality control) - Advantages.
-
Strong materials science background, especially metallurgical and ceramic behavior - post-processing knowledge (heat treatment, debinding, sintering) is valuable - Advantages.
