MOST: “Science Made Accessible” – A Call for Proposals to Bring Research from the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to the Israeli Public
“מדע בגובה העיניים”: קול קורא להנגשת מחקרי משרד החדשנות, המדע והטכנולוגיה לציבור בישראל
הגשה לרשות המחקר: 12.8 | הגשה למשרד המדע: 19.8
הידע המדעי והטכנולוגי המושגים באמצעות המחקר הממומן ממשרדי הממשלה, יכולים וצריכים להגיע למעגלים רחבים בקרב הציבור, ילדים ובוגרים. בכך תוכפל תרומתם לקידום חברה טובה יותר. המשרד מבקש לשלב את החוקרים עצמם בפעילות ההנגשה והיישוג (outreach) של פועלם הם, תוך הפיכתם לגורם משמעותי לעידוד שיתוף הציבור בידע ובמידע המצטבר במעבדה ובשטח, הגברת העניין במדע וצמצום הפערים בנגישות ליידע ועשייה מדעית.
פעילויות היישוג וההנגשה יכולות לכלול אמצעים שונים ומגוונים בהתאם לאופי המחקר והעדפות החוקרים והמוסד, כגון:
- פיתוח תכנים לרשתות החברתיות (למשל סדרת סרטוני טיקטוק, אינסטגרם או יוטיוב) המנגישות את ממצאי המחקר לציבור;
- פרסום מאמרים פופולריים בעברית, ערבית, רוסית, ואמהרית בעיתונות או באתרי מדע פופולרי;
- מתן הרצאות לקהל הרחב בנושא המחקר או בהקשרו הרחב יותר, או חשיפת המחקר בפודקאסט או אירועי תרבות
- מתן הרצאות מדעיות לילדים ואו בני נוער במסגרת תוכניות חינוך פורמלי או בלתי פורמלי;
- הקמת מוצג או מוצגים מוזיאונים;
- העברת סדנאות לקהלים שונים;
- פיתוח מערכי שיעור או ערכה לימודית לילדים ונוער או לחוגי מבוגרים;
- ייזום סיורים חינוכיים במעבדה או בשטח המחקר;
- השתתפות פעילה באירועים מדעיים-פופולריים פתוחים לציבור הרחב;
- יצירת סרטונים המתארים את הפעילות המחקרית וממצאיה והפצתם באמצעות גורם שלישי או באופן עצמאי;
מימון: עד 30 אלף ₪ לשנה.

Internal Call – VATAT (Planning and Budgeting Committee) Proof of Concept (POC) Research Funding Program (Internal application by Aug 10)
This program supports outstanding academic research with clear applied potential—commercial, public, or societal—and is designed to bridge the gap between early-stage research and more mature projects capable of attracting external (industry or public-sector) interest. The POC stage is critical for advancing translational research but often faces funding challenges due to technological and market uncertainty.
Funding details: Up to 350,000 NIS per project; Duration: 18–24 months; Open to all academic disciplines, subject to demonstrated applied potential
This call is intended specifically for projects at the proof-of-concept stage, i.e., those that have not yet secured commercial investment due to their current level of technological maturity.
Technion internal process: The Technion may submit up to seven proposals; therefore, an internal selection process will be conducted by the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Office of the Vice President for Innovation and Industry Relations.
Researchers interested in applying are requested to submit a preliminary proposal (in full proposal format) by August 24, 2026 to: ra-tec@technion.ac.il

Slovak-Israeli research teams are hereby invited to submit joint proposals in any of the following areas:

- שותפות: המחקרים יסתמכו על נתונים שיתקבלו משני גופים ציבוריים לפחות. יש לצרף להצעה מכתב הסכמה רשמי לשיתוף הנתונים (עיינו בנספחים).
- מתודולוגיה מחקרית:שימוש באלגוריתמיקה מתקדמת ובינה מלאכותית ככלי מחקר מרכזי על גבי נתוני עתק.
- מדע פתוח ושקיפות:יינתן יתרון להצעות המייצרות מידע חדש שיונגש לציבור הרחב במסגרת פורטל המידע הממשלתי (Data.gov.il) או באמצעים ציבוריים אחרים.
הצעות אשר לא ייבחנו במסגרת קול קורא זה
- מחקרים שאינם מתמקדים בעולמות התוכן שהוגדרו (המערכת הציבורית הפיננסית והמערכת הציבורית של השירותים חברתיים).
- מחקרים שאינם כוללים נתונים משני גופים ציבוריים לפחות.
- מחקרים המבוססים על כלי סטטיסטיקה מסורתית בלבד, או על מאגר נתונים מצומצם.
- הצעות העושות שימוש בפתרונות מדף גנרייםללא פיתוח אלגוריתמי ייעודי או עיבוד מעמיק של הנתונים.
תקציב:
500 אלף ₪ לתקופה של עד שנתיים.

Schmidt Sciences: Decarbonization Modeling of Urban Mobility and the Built Environment – expressions of intent
We are seeking to fund one multi-institutional collaboration targeting coupled representation of mobility and buildings sectors, particularly in urban systems, and addressing four focus areas: a) advances in the understanding of interdependencies in decarbonization pathways; b) methodological advances that improve model representation of said interdependencies; c) rigorous uncertainty analyses and model validation; and d) generating context-specific insights highlighting the needs, constraints and impacts of decarbonization pathways.
We are seeking brief (3 page) expressions of intent (EOIs) for research projects that target key gaps in understanding and representing complex interdependencies in decarbonization of urban mobility and built environment, with an emphasis on models and analyses that are relevant for informing decision making.
Who should apply: Consortiums of multiple institutions are encouraged, particularly including or led by researchers local to selected geographic contexts. German Israeli Foundation (GIF): The development, application, and societal implications of artificial intelligence
Research proposals that explore the development, application, and societal implications of artificial intelligence (AI). This call seeks projects spanning both Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine (STEM), and Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
Topic 1: Advancing the Science and Application of Artificial Intelligence (STEM): Research that advance the science and application of AI. It should either advance the field of AI itself or apply AI in a STEM discipline in a way that drives new fundamental or applied scientific insights. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, data mining, multi-agent systems, knowledge representation, human-in-the-loop AI, search, planning, reasoning, robotics, and perception. Application of AI across all STEM fields is a valid topic, provided that it can be shown to bring new advances and novel expectations from the research. GIF encourages proposals that combine methods from different AI sub-fields (e.g., machine learning and computer vision; robotics and multi-agent systems; computer vision and natural language processing), as well as proposals that connect AI with related disciplines such as neuroscience and cognitive science, medicine, and other STEM fields.
Topic 2: Artificial Intelligence as an Epistemic Transition (SSH): Emerging communication technologies increasingly challenge established forms of knowledge production and their criteria for the validation of evidence… The consequences extend from medical practice, consumer behavior, and political decision-making to the very modes by which scientific knowledge is generated, social relations are constituted, and self-understanding is articulated. GIF invites submissions from the SSH that critically investigate the epistemic, social, and cultural transformations associated with AI and related technologies. Projects may address these developments through theoretical, empirical, historical, or methodological approaches.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The call strongly encourages collaboration between SSH and STEM partners. Interdisciplinary teams must clearly demonstrate the integration of STEM and SSH perspectives, focusing on AI and its implications.
Two funding tracks are available:
* Collaborative Track: Joint proposals by German and Israeli researchers with maximum total budget of €300,000 over 3 years.
* Solo Track: Supports early-career researchers (up to 8 years post-PhD) submitting one-year projects without a partner from the other country. The maximum budget for this track is €25,000.
Melanoma Research Alliance: ISRAEL BASED Pilot Award
Pilot Awards support senior investigators who propose potentially transformative ideas that do not have extensive preliminary data but articulate a clear hypothesis and translational goals. Resources for such “high-risk, high-reward” projects are important to establish proof-ofconcept, which may then leverage additional funding through more traditional avenues. The Israeli budget is funded by the BSF as follows: up to $114K/yr for experimental studies and $94K/yr for theoretical and computer-based studies.

Preeclampsia Foundation: Pappas Research Grant Program
The Preeclampsia Foundation is seeking Letters of Intent for the Peter Joseph Pappas Research Grants funding program, designed to accelerate preeclampsia research. The Michael J. Fox foundation: Parkinson’s Disease Therapeutics Pipeline Program
Applicants may submit a pre-proposal application at any time. Pre-proposals will be reviewed by MJFF within three weeks of submission. Applicants whose pre-proposal is selected for further consideration will be invited to submit a full proposal through one of the four review cycles.
This program seeks to advance therapeutic development through pre-clinical and/or clinical testing of approaches addressing unmet needs of people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Gates Foundation: AI-Enabled Consumer Engagement to Advance Family Planning
AI-Enabled Consumer Engagement to Advance Family Planning: Digital tools have expanded the reach of family planning programs in sub-Saharan Africa, but most existing approaches rely on one-way or rule-based messaging that cannot replicate the kind of responsive, personalized conversation that moves women from awareness to action. Recent advances in large language models have changed what is possible. AI-enabled consumer engagement tools can now hold nuanced, multi-turn conversations in local languages, respond to individual questions and concerns, and deliver personalized information at very low marginal cost across both public and private sector channels. This RFP seeks to answer a core question for the family planning field: can AI-enabled direct-to-consumer engagement improve contraceptive uptake, continuation, and informed method choice at scale – and, if so, which approach works best?

Seeking brief Expressions of Intent (EOIs) for research projects that address knowledge gaps in carbon cycle science, yield categorical reductions in the uncertainty associated with the major components of the global carbon cycle, and improve the accuracy of their future projections. Projects could propose to achieve this through novel observations and measurements, or modeling approaches, or data assimilation improvements, or any combination thereof. Select EOIs will be invited to submit full proposals. Submissions must be grounded in one or more of the following scientific themes:
Theme 1. Anthropogenic emissions and their fate in time and space, in order to make major improvements in the accuracy of the global carbon budget.
Theme 2. Carbon cycle behavior on policy-relevant timescales in order to enable attribution and robust distinction between the response of the carbon cycle to natural and anthropogenic drivers.
Theme 3. The future of the land and ocean carbon stocks and fluxes in a changing climate on decadal to centennial timescales, including evaluating the potential for surprises and abrupt change.
Team Composition: We expect project teams to prioritize representation across disciplines, geographies, and backgrounds, and to provide opportunities for early career scientists.
Budget: The typical award for a Schmidt Sciences Virtual Institute project is USD 10M over 5 years.
EOI structure: submissions should provide a maximum 3-page proposal with the following information: project narrative; research plan; a description of preliminary team composition, and potential external institutional partnerships; preliminary budget; a brief statement indicating if, and how, generative AI was used in developing the proposal.

Schmidt Sciences – VESRI Climate Modeling Challenge: Accelerating Development Cycles for Coupled Climate Models, Phase I – Expressions of Intent
The Virtual Earth Systems Research Institute (VESRI) supports a portfolio of multi-year projects focused on improving the realism and credibility of climate models through enhanced mathematical methods and algorithms. Through VESRI, we coordinate hundreds of climate and data scientists across 9 projects, 17 countries, and 65 research institutions to tackle difficult scientific and computational problems in climate modeling. VESRI advances this mission through three priorities:
- Improving representation of essential processes across scales in Earth System Models through enhanced mathematical methods and algorithms
- Incorporating findings, processes, and outputs into multiple regional and global models to demonstrate measurable reduction in systematic bias
- Promoting cross-disciplinary research, team science, sustainable software practices, and open data as common practice
At present, climate model development cycles remain slow and resource-intensive: model improvements often require substantial time, engineering effort, and computational resources to implement, integrate, and recalibrate within Earth System Models (ESMs). This Climate Modeling Challenge is a new funding initiative aiming to enhance and accelerate coupled model development cycles, with a focus on efficient and reproducible coupled model calibration, thereby advancing VESRI’s core mission to make climate projections more realistic and useful for decision-making. Given the rapid emergence of machine learning (ML) in climate modeling applications, this funding initiative is open to a range of modeling approaches, including process-based, ML-based, and other models.
The Challenge will be launched in a phased approach:
- Phase I: Coupled Climate Model Calibration Workflow and Stability – The focus of Phase I is to implement a workflow for systematic reproducible calibration in a coupled climate model (defined here as at minimum a three-dimensional atmosphere-ocean global climate model; see Glossary for details). The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to solicit ideas on NIH-wide challenges and opportunities from the public that may be of interest to the NIH Common Fund.
Background: The Common Fund supports bold scientific programs that catalyze discovery across all biomedical and behavioral research. These programs bring together investigators and multiple NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices (ICOs) to collaborate on innovative research. Common Fund programs are expected to address high priority challenges for NIH as a whole and make a broader impact on the scientific community. Many Common Fund programs are designed to produce specific deliverables, such as broadly useful datasets, tools, technologies, research methods, or fundamental scientific paradigms. - Catalytic – time-limited investments of 10 years or less, designed to capitalize on new scientific knowledge or breakthroughs to accelerate and enable subsequent research
- Goal-driven – include defined goals to develop specific deliverables (such as new knowledge, data sets, resources, methods, or technologies)
- Synergistic – advance the missions of multiple NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs), leverage expertise from multiple ICOs, and accelerate research relevant to multiple diseases and conditions

The Morton Cure Paralysis Fund (MCPF): Research Grants

What is funded?
While the term “dual use” traditionally refers to the dual applicability of research findings or technologies for civilian and military purposes, in the humanities and social sciences, “dual use” is understood here to mean unintended effects of research in these fields. These effects can take many forms. This call for proposals focuses on ideologically motivated anti-liberal, anti-scientific, and anti-democratic forms of such appropriations.
For example, the scientific insight that “knowledge is socially constructed” can be reduced to the claim that all truth is merely opinion—a claim used to delegitimize science or the media. Postcolonialist approaches are also sometimes reinterpreted in political discourse, for instance to defend a supposed “right to difference.”

In this context, the following levels should be distinguished:
- Ideologically motivated conceptual and theoretical development or its further elaboration within scientific discourse.
- Unintended effects of concepts and theories from the humanities and social sciences in non-scientific contexts due to their ideologically motivated appropriation and application.
Funding is available for project teams of two to three researchers from the humanities, cultural studies, and social sciences who, through exploratory basic research, investigate the occurrence, mechanisms, and conditions of such reappropriations. At the same time, the initiative aims to create space for reflection on the philosophy of science, stimulate reception-sensitive theory-building, and contribute to science communication within the relevant disciplines.
The British Academy: International Interdisciplinary Research Projects 2027: Relationship between expertise, public understanding and policy delivery internationally
Projects will be led by UK-based researchers in the humanities and social sciences working with international partners and wishing to develop genuinely interdisciplinary projects that range across all SHAPE (social sciences, humanities and the arts) and STEM disciplines on the theme of Mobilities.
The purpose of each project will be to develop new international research led by and grounded in the humanities and/or social sciences, to further understanding of mobilities. Genuinely productive and integral interdisciplinarity is a requirement, with the expectation that this will involve collaboration across disciplines. The collaboration can include any SHAPE or STEM discipline as long as the research is led by and grounded in the humanities and/or social sciences.
The Academy requires applications to address one or more of the following topic areas:
* People, Materials and Things: Research that understands the movement of people and explores and interrogates the movement of materials. This includes both movement across geographical space as well as movement over time.
* Ideas, Narratives and Innovation: Research that produces new insights for understanding the context in which ideas, stories and technological developments spread, and how change is both driven by such developments and by the contexts and connections in which they happen. Cure Parkinson’s: Quarterly Grant in preclinical and clinical research – Pre-proposals
This programme funds preclinical and clinical research focused on slowing, stopping, or reversing Parkinson’s. We do not fund research which is directed at symptomatic relief.
For preclinical research, we fund grants up to £250,000 (GBP) and prioritise projects that are likely to lead to clinical trials in people with Parkinson’s within 5 years. For clinical research, we fund clinical trials and sub-studies of trials in people with Parkinson’s. Blood Cancer United (former Leukemia & Lymphoma Society): Translational Research Program (TRP) – LOI
TRP is designed to accelerate the progression of promising scientific discoveries toward clinical application in blood cancers. The TRP supports projects with a clear path to clinical impact. Early-stage or discovery-focused research may be better suited for our Discovery Grant Program (DGP), and applicants with such projects are encouraged to apply through that mechanism.
For the 2027 grant cycle, TRP applications must demonstrate translational readiness. The following criteria apply:
- Small molecule therapies: Applications must include in vivo proof of concept (POC) in appropriate animal models. In select cases, strong in vitro POC using patient-derived samples may be considered, depending on the mechanism of action.

National Ataxia Foundation (NAF): Research Grants – Letters of intent
NAF funds research through 7 distinct award mechanisms:
-Early Career Investigator Award: a $50,000. 1-year, merit-based, nonrenewable grant designed to support outstanding early-stage scientists who have completed their postdoctoral training within the past 6 years and hold a junior faculty or clinical fellow appointment. This award aims to foster the development of independent research careers by providing seed funding for innovative, high-impact studies in the field of ataxia. -Michael Lundquist Grant to Advance MSA-C Research: a $50,000, 1-year, merit-based, nonrenewable grant awarded annually to independent researchers for outstanding proposals that aim to make meaningful advancements in the treatment and care of individuals affected by multiple system atrophy, cerebellar subtype (MSA-C). While proposals may include aspects relevant to other forms of ataxia, the primary focus must be on preclinical, translational, or clinical research directly related to MSA-C.
Bavarian Research Alliance: Funding Programme for the Initiation of International Research Collaborations in Bavaria
Supports Bavarian state and church-affiliated universities as well as universities of applied sciences (UAS) in establishing international research collaborations and preparing joint research funding proposals.
The funding enables researchers to build new international partnerships and prepare joint third-party funding proposals.
