Types of research are eligible

The award seeks applications from teams conducting applied scientific research powered by AI or machine intelligence in one of three categories: health & life sciences; energy, environment & agriculture; and industry, infrastructure & manufacturing.

Health & life sciences

This category welcomes applications from research groups using AI to meaningfully speed up scientific progress that improves human health. It includes AI-driven research that advances prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or understanding of human health and biological systems.

Energy, environment & agriculture

This category supports AI-powered research that helps solve environmental and agricultural challenges in support of a sustainable future. It includes work in renewable energy, climate modelling, conservation, sustainable food systems and advanced agriculture.

Industry, infrastructure & manufacturing

This category recognizes researchers using AI to transform industrial performance and build more resilient systems. The scope includes advanced manufacturing, materials science, robotics, transport, supply chains and smart infrastructure.
