Breakthrough Research Program (MAPATS)
Large-scale support for basic, high-quality, groundbreaking and high-risk/high-gain research, in all scientific fields.
Eligibility: Researchers with academic experience of 10 years or more. Each proposal will be submitted by only one PI. Main criteria:
* PI’s research record (especially research activity in the last 10 years),
* Proposal quality and suitability (risk versus high benefit …),
* Originality and innovation
Funding: up to 800K NIS/year for experimental/empirical projects or 400K NIS/year for theoretical projects. Grant term: 5 years.

Quantum Science and Technologies Program
Research will be funded in one of the following topics:
* Quantum calculation
* Quantum communication
* Simulation using quantum systems
* Quantum instruments and sensors (such as atomic clocks, magnetic field meters, and quantum accelerometers)
* Quantum materials (such as topological materials and quantum-engineered materials to show special properties)
* Foundations of quantum theory with implications for future technologies
Funding: For experimental research up to 700K NIS per year for up to 3 years.
For theoretical research up to 350K NIS per year for up to 3 years.
In addition, for experimental research it will be possible to include a request for dedicated research equipment of up to half of the total grant and up to 350K NIS for theoretical research.
Acceptance rate: this year ~12 applications will be funded

MAVRI – Biomedical Research Grants Track
Supports Biomedical research, which is expected to lead to profound understanding of human biology and of human health- and disease-related mechanisms. This track is focused on supporting basic or translational research, directly linked to the fields of human biology and health, which results may have medical implications. The following research areas are included in the current cycle (October 2025):
- Cancer Research • Human Genetics • Infection and inflammation • Immunology • Hematology • Aging • Human Development
Funding: 2M to 4M NIS in total, for a period of up to 4 years. Number of grants: Currently, five submission cycles are planned, with ~20 research grants awarded in each.

29.10 | ISF-DFG: Israel – Germany collaboration
Mandatory ISF portal pre-registration deadline: 29.10 | ISF submission deadline: 6.8.26
Applications can be made any time on DFG platform before 6.8.26, yet the ISF pre-registration has to be done by 29.10.25 (13:00),
– The DFG accepts applications and conducts evaluations on an ongoing basis; in exceptional cases, the process may extend beyond one year.
– An Israeli researcher (PI) may hold only one ISF international grant at any given time. Therefore, a new proposal with an international collaboration may only be submitted to the ISF once the evaluation process for the current proposal has been completed and its results published.
- The Israeli PI must submit an administrative proposal form via the ISF online system no later than seven days after the German PI has submitted the full proposal to the DFG.
Israeli-German joint research proposals within the scope of basic research in all fields.
Proposals must be prepared in DFG format according to the DFG guidelines and the DFG will organize the review and evaluation of the proposals.
At the time the proposal is submitted to the DFG, the Israel-based partner is required to submit a copy of the proposal to the ISF.
